Wipeout for Sherrybear
Uploaded: March 19, 2010 03:32:42
My PG 101 All Wet Theme Entry ~re-enterred in Catch All~
Taken at Soldiers Beach two days ago which is one of the few Central Coast beaches totally untouched by urban development. I stood in the surf up to my waist with my Quad stick buried in the sand to hold me up. Fortunately I was able to sit on the handle to keep my balance and when a big wave came I held my camera over my head to stop it from getting wet. Graham didn't say a word when I got back soaking wet. Just asked "did you get your camera wet dear?" I don't think I'll do that again though, one experience is enough to last a lifetime lol. Thankyou for looking. ~Pat

Lol, Pat - what a fabulous surfing capture this is...and you chose and posted just wonderful music to go with it, too!! :o)I'm SO glad that you AND your camera survived the 'wave zone' for this image!! Mind you, salt water would've been worse for your camera than for you - lol!! ;o)
I agree with Michelle - "you (definitely should!) win the monthly 'intrepid photographer' award! Hands DOWN!"!! ;o) #8466021

OH MY... what a shot Pat... cant believe you got out in the waves like that! It gave you a wonderfull POV... Lucky you didnt ruin your camera or get wiped out yourself... caught an awesome shot though.... great image here Pat... dont guess you got the name of the surfer? He might have wanted a copy. #8466034Karen Engelbreth March 19, 2010
Fantastic action shot, Pat... #8466046Graham Robards March 19, 2010
LOL Sherrybear, I kept on thinking of you as I was out in the water.Aren't I so lucky I didn't wipe out my camera. I got about five other shots but deleted the rest.
Some were great but blurred. I did what you suggested but if I didn't focus on the first shot the rest were blurred.

Oh goodness I had a good chuckle reading this page!John, I can remember you taking this photo how of my shoes and socks drying out, such fun hey but I dare say nobody would believe the comment I made under the image, you would though!
I was in the water for an hour I am sure, well until my camera stopped working as the card was full. 400 hundred photos.
A lot blurred as waves knocked me. Some great shots too, far better than this one although this fellow was a super rider.
Thankyou for your kind words my friend. Off to see the Scare Crows tomorrow.

LOL gee thanks Avril, I am so pleased John put his shot there now too! Thanks again John!My camera didn't get wet this time but it did when John took a shot of my shoes and socks drying off as I fell into the childrens swimming pool still holding onto my camera.
It got wet but not soaked thank goodness so Graham dried it out. I was very lucky hey! You rock too hee hee! ~Pat

Thank you Sherrybear! No I couldn't find the surfer but I sent a copy to the surf club in case they know him.I can't believe I went into the waves like that, well I can, but I shouldn't have lol.
I had a Lifesaver up on the beach looking at this little old lady in the surf holding a camera and sitting on a tripod. Oh heck my sides are aching.

It's not coming easily to me, Pat. I find it all very difficult and I mess up WAY more than have victories. If I had the $$$ I'd go to night school and take classes to learn my PS better.I have wonderful ideas but dont know how to do them...and I get mental blocks if I think it's too hard for me to learn new things. :(
Very frustrating. #8549676
Graham Robards April 19, 2010
I'd love to help you little sister. You must have a mental block about it.I stayed with Teena's breeder for a month to learn layers and she SCREAMED. She did. She SCREAMED.
Four years later it started to sink into place. I do undertand I really do. Not all of us are left brained, and it's that simple. Layers are for left brained people.
Going to night school may not help Lala, the teachers need to be able to communicate to you in words you will understand.
Graham is hopeless at this, I need to block my ears until he finds the right words lol.
When I get an idea I'll go surfing to look it up, have you tried Googling?xxxxxxxxx #8549735

Congratulations on your Finalist award, Pat! This made it all worthwhile, although I think you should stay your distance from water in the future! #8550949Graham Robards April 19, 2010
LOL thankyou John hee hee hee!The rest of these shots, 5 more surf board riders and Norah Head lighthouse went to God so I am going back there next year to do it again lol!!!
This time with a life jacket on HA. #8551886
Graham Robards April 19, 2010
LOL thankyou Ann! It was ever so funny to look at I am sure, this lone person standing in the surf with a camera.Duh, it would have made a great theme shot for last month if Graham got it. #8551890

Thankyou WM! Great to hear from you my friend. ~Pat #8551893Laura E. Swan April 19, 2010
Gosh...Thank you Pat! :) I have googled. youtubed in fact...but the problem is, is that I cant have my layer program open at the same time as the youtube...so, of course, everything I see on youtube slips out of my brain when I finally get to open my PSE7.I stumble along and make a mess. I guess I am truly not left brained. Is that the same side that does math?! I suck at that too!!! Hee hee!
Let me know if you ever see anything very simple that I could watch. I will look too and let you know if I do.
Hugs to you!!!
Little Sis :) xxxxxxxxxx #8552630

Thankyou so much Julie for your kind words! ~Pat #8553568Graham Robards April 20, 2010
Hi there little sister, yes the left side of the brain is when you can do maths. I just did a test all the answers were from a right brained person. I don't think I have a left side.I can understand your dilemma, I have two laptops so I can watch a video and and copy.
Have you tried printing out the instructions and ticking them off one at a time?
Tell you what I'll write out a recipe with stages so you can print it out and tick it off as you go!
I'll post the steps up at the Critters club but I need to get the time to do it though.
I'd really love to see you get your head around this little sister, I can see it opening up lots of doors for you!

Bravery, they name is Pat. Congratulations on the shot and the dry camera. I always thought surfing looked like fun but know I never did and never will have the nerve to try it. I'm not at all sure I have the nerve to do what you did to get the shot either. #8839029Graham Robards August 16, 2010
Thankyou Susie David and Mitch!I don't know how I ever pulled that one off Mitch I really don't.
I took a whole card, 400 hundred shots before I called it quits so was in the water for at least half an hour and I lost them all! Forgot to backup except for this one shot.
It was God punishing me Graham said! The surf guards up on the beach were most amused. I should have left this one for the action theme, wasn't even thinking there!
